Zain Mahmood

Development Associate


Zain Mahmood joined Overland Property Group in June 2022 as a Development Associate to help expand the company’s Acq/Rehab business and the build out the New York City office. Zain works across all aspects of acquisitions and development, from deal sourcing and initial underwriting to overseeing the project through stabilization, for affordable and workforce housing projects across the country. 

Zain got his start in the affordable housing space in graduate school with a year-long internship at Enterprise Community Partners on their Conventional Equity team, where he worked to improve and create value in affordable, workforce and market rate multifamily real estate by stabilization, and repositioning of those properties. Following that, he worked at LISC in their National Lending unit, working on analyzing and underwriting loans, as well as other projects regarding impact analysis and portfolio evaluation. After graduating, Zain got a job at Exact Capital, a national developer based out of New York, working on all aspects of acquisitions and development of both affordable and mixed income properties across the nation. During his two years at Exact, he was directly involved in the new construction or rehabilitation of over 2600 units of affordable housing, with a total development cost of over $285 million and successfully closed deals in New York, Georgia, Oklahoma, Indiana, and South Carolina. Zain completed a double Bachelor of Economics and Finance in Pakistan (where he grew up) and holds a double Masters in Urban Planning and Public Policy, with a concentration in Affordable Housing and Real Estate Development from Rutgers University. 

Outside of work life, Zain enjoys exploring the New York City food scene and rooftop parties in the summer. He also loves hiking, sailing, and going to tropical places that involve beaches and boats. Zain refuses to play golf despite everyone in the real estate industry telling him he needs to play golf.
